Braemar encapsulates everybody’s picturesque ideal of Scotland – fairytale castles, snow capped mountains, fast flowing rivers, unique wildlife ancient pine forests and the unique Braemar Gathering.

The village itself has a long history dating back to the 8th century when the King of picts built a wooden fort (Doldencha) near to the site of the existing Braemar castle.

There have been several castles built in and around Braemar since then with many bloody stories, tales of bravery and royalty associated with them.
